Oobit, the Tether-backed crypto payments platform, has added native support for Base, the self-custody wallet from Coinbase. The integration brings Base into DePay, Oobit’s decentralized payment layer.

Until now, paying directly from a Base wallet meant online checkout, and limited to merchants that had specifically integrated USDC payments on base. Following the integration, Base wallet holders anywhere can pay online and in-store anywhere Visa is accepted, at over 150 million merchants, directly from their own wallet.

Base has emerged as one of the fastest-growing blockchain ecosystems, making up over 40% of Coinbase's stablecoin traffic, with transfers settling in seconds for under a cent. However, the platform’s payment experience has been built for online checkout, leaving Base wallet users with no native way to spend at places where most everyday spending happens.

Through Oobit’s payment infrastructure, this user base can now spend at the supermarket in Manila, São Paulo, and Seoul, among other physical stores, directly from their wallets without pre-funding, bridging or handing over custody. Funds stay under the user's control until a payment is approved, then convert to local currency and settle through existing rails. No merchant onboarding is required.

Coinbase’s CEO, Brian Armstrong, has previously framed Base as the path to one billion crypto users. A billion users will not all be American. With this integration, Base joins Phantom on Oobit's DePay layer as the company connects crypto's largest wallets to the real world, one by one.

“The industry spent a decade building rails and calling it adoption. Adoption is a Base wallet paying for groceries in Manila, fuel in São Paulo, or flights in Seoul. The infrastructure era is over. The spending era has started, and it is not starting in America. It is starting everywhere at once,” said Oobit’s CEO, Amram Adar.

Oobit stands out on three fundamental things: unlike platforms that require users to deposit funds first, Oobit's DePay layer connects wallets natively, Phantom, and now Base, so crypto never leaves the user's hands before checkout. It is global from day one, and brings in-store spending to wallets that have so far been limited to online checkout.

Finally, backed by the issuer of the world's largest stablecoin, Tether, with the mission of making digital dollars spendable in everyday life: groceries, fuel, travel, not speculation.
