Oobit, the Tether-backed global payments platform making crypto usable for everyday purchases, has partnered with AEON, a leading Web3 payment infrastructure provider across Asia to enable crypto payments over local QR payment rails in Vietnam.
Users can now pay with crypto by scanning the same QR codes accepted by local merchants through VietQR, while merchants continue receiving payments in local currency.
The integration extends Oobit’s existing acceptance at more than 150 million merchants worldwide, adding domestic QR rail support in one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing digital payment and crypto markets. The move reflects Oobit’s broader strategy of pairing global merchant acceptance with the domestic payment rails consumers already use in individual markets.
Instead of introducing a new checkout experience, the partnership lets users pay with crypto on VietQR, the payment infrastructure that consumers and merchants are already familiar with.
"Every market pays differently. Oobit's job is to make crypto disappear into however people already pay, not to ask them to change," said Amram Adar, CEO of Oobit. "AEON lets us do that in Vietnam through VietQR, one of the fastest-growing digital payment rails in Southeast Asia. This is what usable crypto looks like."

Vietnam has already emerged as a growing market for everyday crypto spending within Oobit's ecosystem, with traveler payment activity climbing steadily month over month. Average spend per active traveler stands at about $117/day, per day, further highlighting the depth of everyday payment activity.
The spending data also points to crypto increasingly being used for routine transactions rather than solely as an investment asset. Taxis and rideshare services account for 49.2% of transactions among travelers spending in Vietnam, followed by restaurants at 9.2%, grocery and supermarket purchases at 8.7%, convenience and misc. food stores at 8.4%, fast food at 7.5%, hotels and lodging at 4.0%, clothing stores at 2.4%, and bars and nightlife at 1.8%.
Separately, virtually all, effectively 100%, of USDT swap transactions among travelers spending in Vietnam convert into OOB, indicating strong engagement with OOB alongside payment activity.
The AEON integration extends this localized payment model to Oobit users beyond Vietnam, giving them access to the same crypto-to-local-currency payment experience through other regional QR rails.
